In 1949, Lebanon was the second Arab country after Egypt to join the ICPO.
NCB Beirut is located in the headquarters of the Directorate General of the I.S.F. in the heart of Beirut.
The first chief of Interpol Beirut was Mr. Nasser RAAD Commander of Criminal Police. The Bureau is headed currently by General Shahid El Khoury  who occupies also the position of Head of International Relations Department at the Directorate General of the I.S.F. and Chief of the Arab Interior Ministers Council Bureau in Beirut.
Noting that General Georges Boustany was elected Member of the ICPO Executive Committee  / Delegate for Asia, for a mandate of 3 years (2003 -2006) during the 72nd session of the Interpol General Assembly, held in Benedorm, Spain in October 2003. Thus, it should be highlighted that it is the third time since Lebanon has joined the ICPO that a Lebanese officer is elected for such a prominent position within the Interpol Executive Committee.
As for the International Relations Department, it is part of the Board of Commanders (Staff) of the Directorate General of the Internal Security Forces and is in charge of carrying out the tasks of the Interpol Bureau. As for the activities of Interpol Beirut in the Judicial field, they are all exposed to the office of the Prosecutor General at the Supreme Court  to make the appropriate decisions.
In order to accomplish the missions entrusted to Interpol Beirut according to the rules of the IPCO, all the regional operational units of the ISF in addition to the Sûreté Générale and the Customs, must take part in them, in the limit of their competences.
